Pd‐Catalyzed Oxidative Sulfoalkenylation of Acetanilides and Traceless Removal of the Catalyst Directing Group

The palladium-catalyzed oxidative Heck-reaction, also referred to as Fujiwara-Moritani-reaction, has been investigated for the synthesis of styrenylsulfonyl compounds. Acetanilides and vinylsulfonyl compounds undergo dehydrogenative coupling reactions in moderate quantitative yields, using benzoquinone oxidant choice. Potassium peroxodisulfate, which had previously identified a superior with acrylates, did not provide any products these olefins. Traceless removal catalyst directing group through deacetylation-diazotation-coupling (DDC) sequence was demonstrated 2-arylethene sulfones.

Not a trace: Borylation of the nitrogen in nitrogen heterocycles or anilines provides a traceless directing group for subsequent catalytic C-H borylation. Selectivities that previously required Boc protection can be achieved; furthermore, the NBpin directing group can be installed and removed in-situ, and product yields are substantially higher.
